Isolated Elderly People
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.” – Isaiah 46:4
France faces a growing crisis of elderly isolation with devastating human costs:
- Widespread loneliness: 4.6 million French people aged 60 and over feel lonely, and 2 million elderly people are isolated from social circles (family, friends, neighbors, associations), compared to 900,000 in 2017.
- Weakened social networks: 22% of people over 60 are isolated from family circles, 28% from friends, 21% from neighbors, and 55% from community associations.
- Digital exclusion: 3.6 million elderly people are excluded from digital technologies, further deepening their isolation in an increasingly connected world.
- Breakdown of solidarity: A third of French people in this age group no longer have anyone to talk to about their personal problems, and 300,000 among them are in complete isolation.
Prayer Requests:
- Pray against the loneliness affecting so many seniors in France
- That the Church develops a culture of presence and care toward them
- That each Christian would be sensitive to the needs of the elderly people around them
- For more intergenerational initiatives from the Christian churches and Christian retirement homes
- For the partners and projects listed below to flourish and multiply
Our partners and others who work with the elderly:
