Protect Life
There are two potentially harmful situations coming up this summer, threatening some of the most vulnerable people.
Summer is officially just around the corner, but the heat is already here. According to meteorologists, this summer will certainly be the hottest France has seen since 1900!
As you know, older adults are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat, and even though the government is implementing prevention campaigns and support measures, many older adults are separated from any real support system. As we’ve talked about before, 4.6 million French people aged 60 and over feel lonely, and 2 million elderly people are isolated from their social circles (family, friends, neighbors, organizations), with 300,000 of them completely alone. This makes them more vulnerable in extreme situations because there is no one checking up on them.
The other threat is the upcoming vote by the French Parliament on the “End-of-Life” bill, which provides for measures regarding “assisted dying.” Earlier this month, members of the National Assembly and the Senate were unable to reach an agreement on a final version of the bill. However, the National Assembly is set to review the text again next week (June 22) and vote on whether to pass this law on July 15, the day after the National Bastille day when many French citizens are not paying attention to government proceedings!
Intercessors, now is the time to take action and pray that the life God has created will triumph in France!
So let us pray with our brothers and sisters in France for the protection of the elderly and the vulnerable.
Prayer Requests:
- Father, please protect the vulnerable and elderly people in France this summer. May the heat not affect their health, may their families and friends be a shield around them, may your church create initiatives to visit the most isolated persons and share Your love and mercy towards them!
- We ask your forgiveness for the pride of the French authorities, willing to take the place that only belongs to You to decide over life and death. God, please give them wisdom and the fear of You, so they will respect Your sovereign creation and the sacrifice Your Son made to give us life and life in abundance.
- We also pray for all the people who are suffering from diseases at this moment. Please send Your healing and help the ones who need it to access palliative care and hear Your voice in the middle of the storm.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
